Ages 2-3, Mini Movers
(Plum & Harmar), *No Recital, In-Studio Showing

- Our youngest students will learn basic dance steps while exploring their imaginations. Using creative props, games, and music dancers will improve in balance, coordination, and creative expression. By the end of the season, students learn to follow direction, interact well with others, and comfortably be in class with the instructor and other students. Dancers begin this class at age 2 and continue their first dance experience in this level for the entire season! We are able to show off our new skills in our Mini Movers Showcase at the end of the dance year!

Ages 3-4, Intro to Dance (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital

        -  Students will learn basic ballet technique and terminology in a structured
setting. While focusing on teaching our young dancers ballet movements, musicality, flexibility and balance, instructors maintain excitement in their creative and imaginative lessons. Dancers must be 3 by the first day of classes and will participate in our end of the season recital!

 

Ages 3-4, Dance/Gym Combo (Plum), Performs in Recital

-  30 minutes of Dance class and 30 minutes of Gym: Students will learn basic ballet technique and terminology in a structured
setting. While focusing on teaching our young dancers ballet movements, musicality, flexibility and balance, instructors maintain excitement in their creative and imaginative lessons. The second half of the class will focus on beginning flexibility and strengthening exercises and introduce basic tumbling. Dancers must be 3 by the first day of classes and will participate in our end of the season recital!

 

Ages 5-6, KinderCombo Classes (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital

        *All Combo Classes below will be invited to perform in our end of the year recital. Most Combo classes require one costume for one routine.The dance genre performed is at the discretion of the instructor. 

Ages 5-6, Ballet/Tap Combo (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital
This class focuses on ballet technique and discipline for the first 30 minutes. Props and inventive games are still utilized but instructors focus more on structure and executing ballet movements at an age appropriate level. The second half of class is dedicated to beginner tap steps and terminology. Half way through, dancers will be asked to quickly change shoes to accommodate tap class. 


Ages 5-6, Ballet/Gym Combo (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital

Each class will consist of 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of acro/tumbling. In acro/tumbling class, students will begin to build strength, flexibility, and tumbling skills. The ballet portion will continue to work flexibility and strength while teaching ballet terminology and structure. Tumbling skills will be displayed for parents the last day of regular classes. 

Ages 5-6, Jazz/Hip Hop Combo (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital

In Jazz/Hip Hop class, students will develop basic technical skills, build their dance style and gain confidence. Students will work towards being able to pick up choreography and connect steps together that will lead to being able to perform a routine at the end of the year recital. For the hip hop portion of class, students will engage in formal as well as informal free-styling while learning a foundation of hip hop movement and structure as well as work towards performing a their routine in the end of the year recital.

 

Ages 5-6, Hip Hop/Gym Combo (Plum), Performs in Recital

30 minutes of Hip Hop and 30 minutes of Gym. Students in mini Hip Hop class will learn how to identify music and synchronize their steps to different beats and rhythms. This class will be structured to help students feel comfortable with their movements and prepare to perform in front of an audience. Students enrolled in mini Hip Hop will also learn beginner level Hip Hop skills such as footwork and movement flow. The second portion of the class will focus on beginning flexibility and strengthening exercises and introduce basic tumbling skills.

Ages 5-7 or 6-8, Triple Threat Combo (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital 

A 1 hour OR 1 hour and 15 minute class dedicated to those combo students interested in a bit of everything! Starting with ballet, the class will build on the students previous knowledge and technique. The class will then switch gears to offer musical theatre/jazz and tap. Musical theatre will take what was learned in ballet and apply it to Broadway style combinations while incorporating acting and performing into the routine. Students will learn different acting and theatre games to help make them more comfortable with the important element of musical theatre, character portrayal! When in tap class, dancers will maintain their ballet base of alignment and balance and use it to enhance their tap skills. Each class, we will improve upon beginner tap steps and combinations. 

*Two Options are available for interested dancers: 

       Ages 6-8, Plum Studio: 1 Hour (Ballet, Tap, Jazz). With this class, there is an option to stay for Intro to Musical Theater immediately       after their one hour Triple Threat Combo class. A great choice for dancers interested in all styles but cannot attend Monday full         length classes. This class provides a taste of all of the above with the option to take a full length Intro to Musical Theater class after!

        Ages 5-7, Harmar Studio: 1 Hour 15 min (Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Musical Theater). This class incorporates all styles within the class time. Perfect for dancers with busy schedules but interested in all styles!

Ages 5-18, Musical Theatre Class **MOST POPULAR!!** (Plum & Harmar)

(For Ages 5-6 - Within a Combo, or Intro to Musical Theater )

This class is designed to help dancers learn to perform and act as well as dance. Throughout the year, we will study different broadway shows and learn choreography from select performances. In addition to learning basic dance steps, we will also play acting games to continue to build creativity and imagination. By learning the importance of performing and acting while you’re dancing, we learn how to convey a story to our audience. This skill can be carried over to all other dance genres! 

 

Ages 6-9, Boys Hip Hop (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital 

Students in boys hip hop class will learn basic universal hip hop skills, such as waving, popping, isolations and footwork. This class focuses on synching movements to various beats, rhythms, and music selections. Students in this class will also be trained in freestyling, synchronization of steps, and movement flow. 

7-9 Hip Hop (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital 

Students in 7-9 hip hop class will learn beginner level universal hip hop skills, such as popping, waving, isolations, and footwork. Students in this class will be trained in musicality, finding beats, and moving to various rhythms. This class will be structured to help students feel comfortable with their movements, as well as learn moves that will synch to the music. 

 

10 & Up Hip Hop (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital 

Students in 10 & Up hip hop class will focus on various basic level hip hop moves, such as footwork combinations, waving patterns, isolation patterns, and popping techniques. A complete breakdown of each move will be provided to ensure all students are comfortable with their movement while learning to work together to achieve a common goal of completing a recital routine.

 

10 & Up Jazz (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital 

Jazz is an exploration of style and presentation.  Jazz classes emphasize musicality, body alignment, stretch, strengthening and rhythm. 

Miss Sarah’s and Miss Kelsey’s jazz classes, students will develop basic technical skills, build their dance style and gain confidence. Students will work towards being able to pick up choreography and connect steps together that will lead to being able to perform a routine at the end of the year recital. 

 

10 & Up Tap (Plum & Harmar), Performs in Recital 

We love tap at KDF! Students in our tap classes will explore basic and complex tap steps, develop and enhance their musicality, and learn to change and connect various rhythms and work toward a final recital routine to showcase their skills!
