A Little Background

A Pittsburgh native, I am a graduate of Point Park University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance, and a graduate of New York University with a Master of Arts degree in Dance Education. Knowing that one day I would run a business of my own, I have pursued business education in sports, arts, and entertainment management and entrepreneurship while attending both schools.

Upon receiving my bachelor’s degree, I moved to New York City where I performed on stage and film for various artists and shows.  I taught dance, coached basketball and softball, and soon found myself playing the drums in a rock band which quickly became the focus of my NYC experience. After years of rehearsing, performing shows and recording an album, the band decided to part ways. At that point I took a brief hiatus from the big city and quickly immersed myself in teaching, both in a studio setting and at the university level. My curiosity in dance education and my eagerness to be the most effective educator that I could be led me back to New York City where I attended graduate school at New York University.

During my time at NYU, I served as the Student Chapter Representative to the National Dance Education Organization.  A year later I was selected, nationally, as the Student Rep to the Board of Directors.  This past October in Los Angeles at NDEO’s annual conference, I served on a panel to offer guidance to current undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in the field of dance education, performance, and business.

My choreography presented at NYU was selected for the American College Dance Festival (2012, Penn State University) and most recently, as a finalist for the Jazz Dance World Congress International Choreography Competition (2012).

Additionally, I have extensive teaching experience with ages 3 to Adult in dance, sports, and fitness that span various sectors (private studio, community programs, private schools, university).  Other points of interest include: competition recognition including various choreography and teaching awards, Pilates certifications, jazz and theater instructor at New York City’s historic 92Y, guest teacher & choreographer for universities, private studios and independent dance students.

This year (2018), I have been honored with an invitation to present at a national dance studio conference for owners, teachers, and staff. My wonderful team and I will be attending this professional development experience in Chicago this August where I will be presenting on growth management with a focus on an educated and dedicated team of instructors. I believe my customers recognize and equally value the important role that each instructor plays in the development of their child's dance education and experience as part of our studio family.
